Grand Canyon

What makes it unique

Two rims with different seasons entirely. The South Rim is open every day of the year at 7,000 feet; the North Rim sits 1,000 feet higher and is shut by snow for half of it.

Access

North Rim season runs roughly 15 May to 15 October. For 2026 it reopened after the 2025 Dragon Bravo Fire as a day-use season with no lodge, no potable water and no fuel — verify current status before committing. Nonresident fee park.

Avoid

July and August on the South Rim combine monsoon haze, afternoon lightning and the year's worst crowds. Inner-canyon hiking in summer is a genuine safety issue, not a comfort one.
